In order to make a gloomy room brighter, you first need to update the paint color. A light shade of green, blue or yellow can make a huge difference. If the trim and baseboards are white, a fresh coat of high gloss white paint will make the wall color pop. Don’t forget to give the ceiling a fresh coat of paint too.

Get rid of the old window treatments and install new white wood blinds or plantation shutters. Either one is very popular and will make a huge difference in the feel of a room. If your ceiling light is outdated, replace it with a new one. If the natural light is limited, use more artificial lighting. Floor lamps are excellent when more light is needed.

By adding colorful living plants you will add live to the a dull room. Wicker furniture is light and airy and comes in a variety of colors. Add colorful cushions and let your creativity show.

Make sure you don’t have a lot of clutter, like stacks of old newspapers or magazines. Clutter makes a room gloomy. If you want to save old magazines, buy a wicker basket and stack them in it neatly.
